Prep for College Writing

This group of 11 English as a Second Language (ESL) students completed the AEBG Preparation for College Writing course.  They were determined and dedicated to improving their academic English skills in order to transfer to college.

The Coastline instructor provided training and practice in the basics of composition, grammar, and mechanics to enable students to express ideas clearly in paragraph form.  Although this class was not for college credit, it closely followed the curriculum used in the Coastline Community College English 098 course.  The instructor graded the assignments with the same criteria used in the actual college class

Adult Education Bridge Day Gives Students Insight into College Life at Orange Coast College

More than 220 students, instructors, and administrators from local adult schools, charter schools, and community organizations visited Orange Coast College on Wednesday, April 5 for the spring Adult Education Bridge Day. President Harkins welcomed visitors and presentations followed highlighting the instructional programs and student services at OCC, as well as the financial aid process. College representatives led the students on tours of the campus to help them become more familiar with the resources and supports available to them. Students especially enjoyed visiting the marine laboratory and aquarium and witnessing an EMT demonstration. The day ended with lunch in the Student Center Lounge where campus representatives were available to answer student questions. The Adult Education Bridge Day is part of the Adult Education Block Grant (AEBG) initiative to create seamless transitions for students to develop literacy and basic skills, advance their education and obtain employment. The event was made possible through funding by AEBG and SSSP.
